14 highland creek the best spot to fish salmon at the beginning of the run which is now :)

I just moved in nearbby there...where along the trail would you suggest I can start at this time of the year ( if accessible)...considering the run has just started.
go to Lawson park right now their right their I caught one the other day with my gf good luck buddy

Lawson Park? Do you have a google map link?

Hey man, Lawson park is beside a small creek in Oakville! I kind of hope that was the "highland Creek" you were referring to because that would add another spot to the list!!!!!

Forgot to mention 19 ) Duffins Creek and 20) Oshawa Creek for Steelhead and Salmon. :)

21. Credit River: There are two good holding spots bellow the Dundas Street bridge that has smooth flowing water and it's easy to spot fish. Your going to have to get wet a bit to get there so waders are recommended. Especially in cold water.

You sure that's not sanctuary? Google map?

It's no longer a sanctuary mate. There might be a scratched no fishing sign from far away, but in the regs it's open from the 403 to the lake all year! People fish there a lot, but without venturing further down to the holding spots.

22. Credit River: Bellow the Dundas bridge at Erindale Park there is a pool with running water coming from above. This is the best spot I have seen IMO. The trick is you need somewhat clear water and you have to be standing on the man-made concrete side to see the fish. You could have a fish 2 feet away from you at times. Float fishing works in the fast water and flyfishing works in the slow water. The best way to get to the other side of the river is to cross it downstream where the water is slower and shallower (thermal waders recommended in cold water).

Enjoy!

I do the following, but there may be an easier way:

1) First, I first use google earth to get my exact coordinates
2) I then go to google, maps, then plug those coordinates into the search bar, hit search maps
3) I then zoom into the spot on the map to a level of zoom that I like, then I copy the URL link that is provided on the right hand side.
4) Paste that link here.

Voila.

For those of you who want to try an awesome river spot for salmon right now, and steelhead in a few weeks, check out:

23. Bowmanville Creek at Spry Ave/Baseline Rd W Salmon/Steelhead* Check Regs for closed season.

The stretch of river between Baseline rd W all the way up to the dam is a prime Salmon and Steelhead fishery. This stretch of river has lots of pools that hold salmon in the summer/fall, and steelhead from the fall through until spring. Closed from January 1st until last saturday in April. Check your regs.

Park at the parking lot on the north side of Baseline rd W, just east of Spry Ave.

Bowmanville Creek at Spry Ave/Baseline Rd W: 43°53'59.39"N 78°41'3.00"W

I don't fish the Notti, but I've heard Angus mentioned a few times. Hopefully someone who knows this river will post a hot spot to try... Speaking of which, it's funny you asked because I was going to ask you if you knew any good spots on the Notti based on your post:

Hey i live in Barrie but i do not drive I fish the notti all the time and know some of the hot spots so if you want to go out and catch some steelies reply at (email snipped). I catch and release most of the time but i love to eat fish and so do my family .

Angus & the mouth of the river out at wasaga beach but i think the fish will be further up the river by now don't you think?

Great thread indeed, Thanks to everyone who contributed ; special thanks to Rapala Boy and openfire

I knew about some spots mentioned here , but of course not all of them

From today.

24. Credit River Golf Course: The golf course section is a very risky place to be, but if the fish are running you'll be guaranteed to see some in this section. The golf course closes some time in November in case you don't like getting yelled at or getting hit by a golf ball. It's a long section with lot's of productive spots.

I haven't fished this stretch, just because there are no convenient access points (like Erindale Park), but I'm guessing that this stretch would be killer for steelhead as well, because lack of access = less pressure on the fish. BTW, how did you access it? Walk the river?

edit - never mind, I saw from a previous post that you walked the river.

How about Rouge River I heard theirs alot of salmon their aswell but I am not sure where in Rouge river ehehe I havent fish in their before
