I'm a noob myself and am just looking for a reel as I have a rod suitable for float fishing.

However, this combo seems right in your price range. Maybe the more experienced guys can give some feedback on it for you?

+1 :)

I recently bought a 9' shimano clarus salmon & steelhead rod. I have it with a spinnin reel. I don't have any center pins. I also don't think I will get into it anytime soon either because i read an arcticle and it said spinning reels work better.

The article was wrong.. The best way to drift your presentation is with a CP.
-Not to say that you won't catch fish with a spinning reel.. But to say that it "works better" for drifting is incorrect.

Spinning setups are more universal...
Centrepins are more specialized...

BP REEL LINK
okuma reel runs 169.99 us from bp
the rod i was using was a brownings 13.6 6 rivers and it retails for 109.99 i kno its a bit long for the east tribs ... but they do have a 11.6 of the same rod ...

I was attempting to drift 3 or 4 weeks ago with my spinning rod on a smaller West trib. I figured that since it was smaller I wouldnt have too much trouble drifting with the spinning gear and I wanted to see what it was like to fight a chinny with a drag system as its been a very long time since ive done that. I ended up getting very frusterated as I wasnt able to keep my drift on the far side of the river which is where the fish were holding. Its safe to say that I wont be using my spinning gear for drifting for at least another two years.

There is nothing better for drifting down a river than a centrepin, but if you are using spinners or crank baits, spinning would be preferred.

So I decided on the okuma s1002 in either silver or black :p just looking for where it's the cheapest to get it. And since I'm in school now I can fish the oshawa creek everyday after school :) anyone know a company that has good life time warranty on their rods for floats?

Currently looking at raven rods. Anyone using them and have any good feedback or review? Matched up with a okuma s1002 center pin?

Good Rods, I recommend the RV9 if you're gonna get one of them, tons of power and the blank is light compared to the rest of the models. Good for both smaller and bigger water in my opinion.
