Someone tied up a crayfish with a line?

Sure hope it wasn't on purpose. Good for you for taking the time! I worry about all the line I see tying things up, even in remote streams. I read last year that it's thought it'll take 600 years for all that lost mono & other plastic line to break down once it gets into water.

I only mentioned UGO in particular, by the way, because the founder is an angler.

images of an Outdoors card save the day

A wallet app on my phone saved me from an MNRF fine this weekend. I was out on the water fishing at sunrise with two kids yesterday. About ten minutes after the young lady in our boat landed a nice ~2lb smallmouth bass, MNRF agents were on us asking for my license. My Outdoors card – which I...

    lost rod, tommy thompson park

Thanks for the responses. It was a dumb thing to do, I'd had a hell of a morning with the sewage line backing up in the basement of our building that morning and it seems I was worn out. Anyway, I have some hope that a fellow I speak to from time to time named Tim might track the thing down as...

    lost rod, tommy thompson park

Heading out to do some fishing this evening, I noticed that we'd left my son's rod in Tommy Thompson park in Toronto yesterday. I raced back to find it, no luck. It's a lightweight ~6' two-piece rod. It's an indigo/blue color without any branding or details whatever. We left it behind because I...

    'Friends' vs. Fishermen

I find I'm able to get along fine with birders. I'll point out the species I've seen, and like to hear about the different species that are making a comeback. And I certain share their concerns about the dog walkers letting their animals roam everywhere. Last weekend some yachters let their dogs...

is this a chain pickerel (caught in Toronto)

Wow, thanks for the information, everyone. MuskieBait, you went above and beyond. m(-_-)m I like the idea of local variations, that jibes with what I've seen in different waters. That's what I originally thought when we plucked this out of the water. I saw what I took to be a large sculpin off...

is this a chain pickerel (caught in Toronto)

Thanks for the quick responses. I found the pattern striking, too - this pic by my then seven year old has been the wallpaper on my phone ever since. If it is a chain pickerel, they're a welcome addition to these waters. Given that they're a smaller breed of pike, I wonder if they're drawn to...

is this a chain pickerel (caught in Toronto)

Hi, everyone. I caught this fish at the marina at Ashbridges Bay last year (September 20). I took it for a pike until reading some references to the "chain pickerel" (esox niger) having arrived in eastern lake Ontario in ~2008. Could this be one? I note that it seems to have the required eight...

    Hello from Toronto

@Borms, It's a shame indeed, but it's a common story up there these days - boomers selling out to finance their retirement. I'm going to try to hang onto the canoe and the 1960's Sears aluminium boat if I can figure out where to keep them. I've already got the equally antique (and not...

    Hello from Toronto

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I'd thought I'd see some email(s) alerting me, I didn't notice the replies 'til just now. @DILLIGAF?!, we love Tommy Thompson, but we've been skunked even arriving well before I mean um at opening time. By east of Ashbridges you don't mean along the beaches?

    Hello from Toronto

Hello, everyone. Learning to fish from the shore after my retired mother decided to sell the cottage that was with the family for 96 years. My seven year old son's really been bitten by the fishing bug, I'm pleased to say. But I'm very aware that our 6' rods and short net aren't going to cut it...
